Think Outside the Box 2
It's that time again... time to stretch your mind. When you look at this photo, what comes to mind. At first, I saw a wholly glass that reminded me of the holes in Swiss cheese. But, I knew that wasn't the answer. Is the answer coming to you? I hope so. Think of a glass of:----- ----.
The photos I'm using the next few weeks are from Worth 1000. If you visit the Worth 1000 site, their photography is wonderful.
If any of you have creative puzzles or mind stretchers you think would be appropriate, please send them on and we'll include what we can and certainly give you credit.
Whole milk is the answer. Did you guess?

Author April Smith's Tip on Writing
While at Rancho La Puerta, I picked up a tip from visiting lecturer April Smith.
April, who studied at the creative writing program at Stanford University has published l9 books and won many awards, such as PEN/Faulkner and The O'Henry Prize Stories." I encourage you to read her online bio.
April advises writers to "Write something every day." She explains that to be a successful writer, we must read and write. "Writing is not a hobby, or a past time, it is long hard work."
The Hill team agrees!

Think Outside the Box 1
In our book, $uccess, Your Path to a Successful Book, we encourage using your creativity. And, if you think you're not creative, work at developing it. Once a week (I hope), I plan to have a little teaser to help you stretch your imagination.
The photos I'm going to use the next few weeks are from Worth 1000. My cousin Lois sent me a lot of these and they are terrific. If you visit the Worth 1000 site, their photography is wonderful.
Look at the photo on the right and think what it might represent. Hint, some type of a plant.
Can you guess. I hope so. If not the answer is...Dandy Lions - dandelion, the yellow weed.
Another challenge in a week. Have a good one.

Writing Tip from Duke University
Maralyn and I love this writing tip from the May Body and Soul publication. wholeliving.com (Yes, another one of Martha's successes).
We wish we had found it in time to include in our new book, $uccess, to be published in August 2008. Even though this journaling article pertains to weight loss,it is applicable to journaling in general.
Maralyn is intimately familiar with the success of Duke University's Integrative Medicine Program. Shasha Long, a psychotherapist at Duke, reports that writing can help with both intention and monitoring of weight loss.
Celina Ottaway writes about Sasha’s advice for conscious eating and effective, lasting weight loss. "Ditch the scale and grab a pencil and paper instead." Celina explains what many of us know for sure about the positive power of journaling. Whether you keep a food log, or record your commitment to healthy eating, putting pen to paper can be a valuable tool in the difficult journey to weight loss...and keeping your commitment.
Keeping a commitment to your writing is the same.

My Book's Published - Now What???
At the time we received Norm's proof for "Winner and Final Chairman" (now published by InfinityPublishing.com), we also received, "My Book's Published - Now What???" by John Harnish with Jane Martin.
New Infinity authors will get a complimentary copy automatically with their proof copy of their book. If you are with another publishing company, I'd highly recommend ordering it from Buy Books on the Web (Infinity's online bookstore).
The target market is every newly published author. They clearly explain the facts of life for authors. I've read it cover to cover and they cover it all. You'll learn effective book marketing and promotion ideas. In John's words, "It's a guide to giving authors command of up-to-the-minute publishing trends, and knowing how to sell more books.
Even though our new book, "$uccess, Your Path to a Successful Book" (to be released in August) targets the same market, as well as those who want to get started writing or publishing their book/s, the two books have different insights and approaches. Naturally, I'd recommend you read both.
One thing Brenda and I have learned along this writing path, is the importance of continual reading in our market as well as others.
Once you've read John's book, please let me know how you like it. I'll look forward to your comments.
